FEEDBACK

The following information is feedback from a ninth grade health teacher whose class the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Panel visited this year:

  • After the outreach panel comes, it allows me to have a dialogue with the kids. Sex is difficult for these kids to talk about and the presentation opens up a dialogue.
  • I think the education that you do is making a big difference. I definitely know for a fact that for the majority of the kids that have seen your presentation, it makes a huge impact. And, it is not just for the girls, but what the guys are getting from it is huge. You paint a really good picture.
  • An important message that I hear from the outreach facilitator is about what Lund is, along with the statistics about teen pregnancy. It is important to hear how supportive you are in regards to different lifestyles and whatever choice the parent wants to make, whether it be abortion, adoption, parenting. It is important for the kids to understand that they have those choices and that there is an agency out there to help.
  • You ask questions of the women on the panel and of the audience and that makes it a very welcoming situation.
  • I like the words of advice that the panelists give. It is neat to hear the reality of it all and that is a big part of painting the picture. It is not just that it is a cute baby; it is a lot of other things.
  • It opened up a whole discussion afterwards. It allowed the kids to ask more questions. Just realizing how much diapers cost, just realizing all of these other things.
  • It connected all of the things we have done in class. One of the panelists talked about substances, eating disorders and teen pregnancy. She talked about it all.
  • Having them come into the room and offer their life makes it so real. It makes the kids realize what their life could be like just from having sex once and I think that is a key point, that it can happen the first time.
  • It is all about hearing it from their peers. That is where the message should be coming from. That is what it is all about.
  • Overall, I think that any health curriculum in the state would really benefit from having you and the panel come to speak.
