Program description: The mission of nursing care at Lund Family Center is to assist individuals in obtaining and maintaining a healthy lifestyle for herself and her children. Lund staffs one full-time Registered Nurse and one full-time licensed practical nurse to ensure all clients health care needs are assessed and met. The nurses are trained and educated in substance abuse treatment, opiate replacement therapy, childbirth education, woman’s health issues, with a focus on women’s centered recovery. Nurses strive to provide individualized holistic care in treatment that will assist in meeting the individual woman and child’s needs.
Pre and Post Natal Care: All residents receive assistance throughout and after their pregnancy including nutritional information, medical case management, breast-feeding or bottle-feeding, newborn care, post-partum medical needs and appropriate classes pertaining to the effects of substance abuse on the growing fetus and its life long impact on the child.
Childbirth Education: All clients are offered childbirth education through an eight-week class as well as individual instruction and support from our certified nursing staff. Staff is educated in providing Labor Support services and personal birth coaching for each client.
Breast-Feeding support: Clients can meet individually with one of our nurses for breast-feeding support. Mentors are encouraged, and are assigned, to clients as needed to provide guidance and support.
Medical Case Management: Nursing staff provides medical case management services for clients with a variety of health care needs from wellness and prevention to treatment of health issues affecting the lives of young women.
Pediatric Case Management: Lund’s nursing staff provides professional case management for the medical needs of the children until the age of five.
WIC: A WIC services clinic is held on site once a month for new clients and those in need of re-certification. WIC also offers individualized nutritional service consultations.
Tobacco education: Classes are aimed at assisting young women to develop a plan to help them stop smoking. Providing education on the effects of smoking while pregnant and the effects smoking has on their children. Through encouragement and education women are supported in stopping this life impacting habit.
Blood born Pathogens: Classes are available to increase a young women’s knowledge on how to avoid/cope with pathogens such as HIV, Hepatitis B, C and Sexually Transmitted Diseases, as well as learning ways to communicate with children about uncomfortable subjects.
Women’s Health issues: Classes are held throughout the year covering women’s centered issues such as: Birth control, body awareness, eating disorders, and physical activity options for healthy lifestyles. All classes are geared toward empowering young woman to make healthy choices for themselves and passing it on to their children
Lund Pediatric Clinic is available to all clients. Dr. Molly Rideout, a local pediatrician, is available in the clinic weekly. Clients may bring their children for acute visits and utilize Dr. Rideout to answer parenting and health questions. Dr. Rideout holds group discussions quarterly for clients to learn new information and to share parenting challenges.
