Substance Abuse Treatment Services

Substance Abuse Treatment Services are a critical component of Lund Family Center’s Residential and Community Treatment Program.

Lund’s professional counselors help women and their families address substance abuse issues on an outpatient basis. Services help to reduce family disruption by allowing women to participate in their own treatment while continuing to reside with their child and addressing parenting issues.

Substance abuse treatment services are offered in conjunction with other components of Lund's Residential and Community Treatment Program.

Lund Family Center offers the only residential treatment program in the state that accommodates women residing with their children while in treatment.\

Lund's Philosophy About Women, Drug Abuse, Addiction and Treatment

It is possible for drug-dependent women, of any age, to overcome the illness of drug addiction. Those that have been most successful have had the help and support of significant others, family members, friends, treatment providers and the community.

Many drug-using women do not seek treatment because they are afraid: they fear not being able to take care of or keep their children, they fear reprisal from their spouses or boyfriends, and they fear punishment from the authorities in the community. Many women report that their drug-using male partners initiated them into drug abuse. In addition, research indicates that drug-dependent women are often isolated as wall as the primary caretaker of their child and therefore have great difficulty accessing or maintaining in traditional treatment programs that do not acknowledge their unique circumstances or have other services to address these barriers.

Research shows that women receive the most benefit from drug treatment programs that provide comprehensive services for meeting their basic needs.

Lund provides clinical services:

Outreach and Engagement Services

Women who are on the Residential wait list can receive wrap around services while they wait for an opening, including individual counseling, group counseling, peer support, case management and family education.

Parents who become involved in family court proceedings and who have a suspected or identified substance abuse problem can receive services via the family court case manager in order to have their needs assessed more quickly and engage in treatment as indicated by addressing their barriers. The family court case manager works with the court and family services in the beginning of the case to increase communication and collaboration.

Treatment Services

Women in substance abuse treatment services at Lund receive a plan of care that is developed to meet their individual needs. These typically include individual counseling and daily treatment groups that address issues specific to parents in recovery, including co-occuring mental health and substance abuse treatment groups. Women in substance abuse treatment at Lund are also able to receive substance abuse case management.

Women are also supported when they chose to seek it in attending community self help meetings, securing a sponsor, or attending a weekly meeting sponsored by Lund at the Turning Point Center.

Women in treatment receive random urine screens and results are used to aid the clinician in assessing the women's engagement in treatment and as a positive reinforcement.

Aftercare Services

Women leaving treatment can receive aftercare services designed to meet their individualized needs. Services can include on-going individual counseling, group counseling, relapse prevention, early relapse intervention support, peer support and case management.
